On 11 September 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Chutinun Prasitpuriprecha, President of Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), together with members of the University’s executive team and Acting Sub-Lieutenant Korakot Prasertwong, Vice Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province, welcomed H.E. Mr. Pham Viet Hung, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the Kingdom of Thailand, on the occasion of his visit to Ubon Ratchathani Province to participate in an academic seminar commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Thailand–Vietnam Diplomatic Relations. The event was held at the 4th Floor Meeting Room, Nutrition Building, College of Medicine and Public Health, Ubon Ratchathani University.
The academic seminar, entitled “One River, Shared Table: Food Security and the Mekong-Isan-Vietnam Economic Logistics Corridor,” was organized by the Sustainable Fisheries Research Unit (SFUN), Faculty of Agriculture, Ubon Ratchathani University. The seminar provided a platform for academics, government representatives, and the business sector to exchange knowledge, perspectives, and experiences. It also sought to promote cooperation in food security, the sustainable utilization of natural resources, and economic and logistics development connecting the Mekong region, Northeastern Thailand, and Viet Nam.
On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Pham Viet Hung shared his perspectives on Thailand–Vietnam relations and opportunities for future cooperation, highlighting the importance of academic and research collaboration as a mechanism for connecting knowledge and creating opportunities for mutual development. Such cooperation can contribute to sustainable economic, social, and environmental development at both local and regional levels.
The event also featured a photo exhibition presented by the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in Thailand, showcasing the longstanding friendship and relations between Thailand and Viet Nam. In addition, a fisheries exhibition presented by research groups from UBU’s Faculty of Agriculture highlighted knowledge and research related to fisheries and the sustainable utilization of natural resources.
In the afternoon, a discussion on future academic and research collaboration was held at the Grand Ballroom C, U-Place Hotel, Ubon Ratchathani University. Representatives from the Faculty of Agriculture, Ubon Ratchathani University; the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in Thailand; Can Tho University; Nha Trang University; the University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City; the Vietnam Institute of Fisheries Science (VIFS); the Thai-Chinese Agribusiness Association; and the Living Aquatic Resources Research Center, Lao PDR, participated in the discussion. The session provided an opportunity to exchange information and perspectives and to explore potential collaboration in academic affairs, research, agriculture, and fisheries, with the aim of strengthening regional networks among higher education institutions, research organizations, government agencies, and other relevant sectors.
The year 2026 marks a significant milestone—the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Viet Nam. Over the past five decades, the two countries have continuously strengthened their friendship and expanded cooperation across a wide range of areas. This event not only reflected the close and enduring ties between Thailand and Viet Nam but also represented an important opportunity to enhance the roles of Ubon Ratchathani Province and Ubon Ratchathani University as strategic connectors within the Greater Mekong Subregion. Through the integration of academic, research, economic, and sustainable development cooperation, the initiative contributes to advancing shared knowledge, opportunities, and benefits for the people of both countries and the wider region.
