The Faculty of Political Science at Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) organized the Annual International Training Course (AITC) 2026 under the theme, “Empowering Communities for Inclusive Development through the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) for the SDGs: Lessons from Community-Based Participatory Research and Community-Driven Development in Thai Isan Villages,” held from 1–15 May 2026.

The program was generously supported by the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Tuantong Jutagate, Vice President for Research and Innovation, who delivered welcoming remarks to 28 participants from 17 countries around the world.

Dr. Titipol Phakdeewanich, Project Director, stated that the program goes beyond conventional training, serving as a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the sharing of experiences in community development. The program emphasizes learning through real-world case studies and encourages active participation from individuals representing diverse social and cultural contexts.

The course included both academic lectures and field visits across three provinces in Northeastern Thailand—Ubon Ratchathani, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom—where participants explored how community culture and local wisdom contribute to strengthening communities and advancing community-driven development processes.

Furthermore, the program provided a valuable platform for fostering international collaboration among countries in the Global South. Participants from Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and the Caribbean joined the program, representing Armenia, Azerbaijan, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.

This initiative plays a significant role in promoting mutual learning, knowledge exchange, and the development of international cooperation networks, contributing to inclusive and sustainable community development in developing countries.
