Ubon Ratchathani University Participates in Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit 2026 in Hong Kong

Professor Dr. Tuantong Jutagate, Vice President for Research and Innovation, together with a delegation of researchers from Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), participated in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit 2026, held from 23–25 April 2026 at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, under the theme “Igniting Global Transformation: Asia’s Leadership.” 

The summit was jointly organised by Times Higher Education (THE) and HKUST, marking the university’s 35th anniversary and its return as host after a decade. The event focused on exploring Asia’s developing role as a global leader in innovation and highlighted the critical contribution of universities in shaping the future of humanity in an age of rapid change.

On this occasion, Ubon Ratchathani University had three research projects shortlisted as finalists for the THE Awards Asia 2026, as follows:

1. Empowering Young People as Leaders in Local Climate Governance

Category: Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership

Research representative: Assistant Professor Patawee Chotanun

2. Strengthening Community Economy and Local Pride in Ubon Ratchathani Old Town through Multicultural Heritage

Category: Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Research representative: Assistant Professor Dr. Suwapat Siritammasakul

3. EMS Help Me: Digital Platform for Cross-Border Patient Referral Management between Thailand, Laos and Cambodia

Category: Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year

Research representative: Dr. Sirintip Thaweedet

Throughout the three-day summit, the UBU delegation actively engaged in knowledge exchange on global innovation and strategic vision, while gaining insights into advancements in science, entrepreneurship, and scalable solutions addressing climate change, healthcare, and urban resilience. The delegation also contributed to discussions on global standards for artificial intelligence and the futureofeducation. 

The event also featured the live announcement of the THE Asia University Rankings 2026, alongside masterclass sessions offering in-depth data analysis, and the THE Awards Asia 2026 ceremony, celebrating excellence in higher education across the region.

Participation in this prestigious summit highlights Ubon Ratchathani University’s growing presence on the international stage and strengthens its academic and research networks, paving the way for sustainable development at both regional and global levels.
