On Wednesday, 24 December 2025, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, graciously presided on behalf of the Monarch at the 34th Commencement Ceremony of Ubon Ratchathani University for the Academic Year 2024. The ceremony was held at the 7th Cycle of the King’s Birthday Convention Hall, Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), Ubon Ratchathani.
This year’s diploma recipients included 2,530 bachelor’s degree graduates, 50 master’s degree graduates, and 4 doctoral graduates, totaling 2,584 graduates. On this occasion, the UBU council approved two honorary doctorates for the Academic Year 2024 consisting of 1) an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Fine and Applied Arts (Textile and Fashion Design), Faculty of Applied Arts and Architecture to Mr. Meechai Taesutjariya and 2) an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration in Business Management, Business School to Mr. Prawit Anuntawarasin.
In addition, UBU conferred the Ratthanobon Award 2025 (Business School) upon Phra Kru Kosolsikhakit (Poot Arthan), in recognition of exemplary leadership grounded in Buddhist principles, community development initiatives, and sustained contributions to social well-being. The University also presented the Rattanobol Award 2025 (General Category) to four recipients included Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Associate Professor Dr. Nongnit Teerawatanasuk, Associate Professor Manthana Samart, and Mr. Sombut Wotong for outstanding work and service as a consistently excellent role model for society and the nation.
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn subsequently spoke emphasizing that academic success is the result of perseverance and dedication, and encouraging graduates to apply their knowledge for the benefit of themselves, their families, society, and the nation. She further underscored the importance of lifelong learning in a rapidly changing world, and called upon graduates to cultivate integrity, gratitude, compassion, and social responsibility as foundations for meaningful lives and sustained professional success.
Following the ceremony, Her Royal Highness graciously joined university executives, distinguished guests, and organizing committee members for an official group photograph, and subsequently met with nine recipients of the Princess Royal’s Royal Scholarships.
At present, Ubon Ratchathani University has provided higher education for over 35 years, offering 86 academic programs, including 49 bachelor’s, 22 master’s, and 15 doctoral programs, with a total student population of 18,730. UBU is committed to producing highly skilled graduates with entrepreneurial competencies and practical expertise aligned with industry needs; advancing research, innovation, and knowledge creation to enhance quality of life and socio-economic value; delivering academic services that transfer technology and innovation to society and industry; and promoting the creative preservation of Southern Isan culture and local wisdom. These missions collectively support UBU’s aspiration to become a leading university in ASEAN, dedicated to improving societal well-being under the guiding philosophy: "Ubon Ratchathani University engenders consciousness and wisdom for society on the basis of self-sufficiency".
