Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) has been ranked 10th nationally and 131st worldwide in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2025, with a total score of 8,437.5 points. The ranking evaluated 1,745 universities from 105 countries worldwide and was organized by the University of Indonesia (UI). The results were officially announced on 5 December 2025. Assistant Professor Dr. Thanabhorn Thaweewut, Vice President for Infrastructure Development and Landscaping, stated that UBU has participated in the UI GreenMetric ranking since 2020, with the objective of advancing the university toward becoming a green and environmentally sustainable institution. The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, established in 2010, is internationally recognized as a key benchmark for assessing universities’ commitment to environmental sustainability and sustainable development.

The ranking framework assesses universities across six weighted criteria:

  1. Setting and Infrastructure (SI) – 15%, evaluating green spaces, water management, and waste management
  2. Energy and Climate Change (EC) – 21%, focusing on energy consumption, renewable energy use, and carbon emissions
  3. Waste (WS) – 18%, assessing waste management practices, recycling, and composting
  4. Water (WR) – 10%, examining water usage and conservation efforts
  5. Transportation (TR) – 18%, evaluating transportation policies, public transport use, and cycling
  6. Education and Research (ED) – 18%, assessing sustainability-related education and research

In 2025, UBU achieved improved performance across all assessment categories, with a higher overall score compared to the previous year. The university advanced from 17th to 10th place nationally and from 207th to 131st place globally, reflecting tangible progress toward its vision of becoming a “University for Sustainability.” In the same ranking, Wageningen University & Research (Netherlands) was placed first globally with a total score of 9,000 points.

UBU remains committed to its strategic goal of becoming a green, livable, and environmentally friendly university, aligning sustainability with long-term institutional development and effective university governance. The university extends its sincere appreciation to all stakeholders whose collective efforts have contributed to this achievement and reaffirms its dedication to advancing sustainability for the benefit of society and the environment.
