Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), led by Professor Dr. Siriporn Jungsuttiwong, Dean of the Faculty of Science, participated in the international conference “2025 Empowering Connectivity in Chemistry: Chemistry as a Bridge to Sustainability”, held from September 30 to October 3, 2025, at the Avani Ratchada Hotel, Bangkok. The event was organized by the Thailand Science Research and Innovation and presided over by Dr. Arunee Panpermsak, Assistant Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI).
The conference provided a platform for over 170 researchers and experts from Thailand, Taiwan, and other partner countries to exchange knowledge, strengthen research networks, and promote innovation toward sustainable development.
As part of the conference, UBU Faculty of Science researchers represented Thailand as invited speakers, delivering three scientific presentations:
1. Professor Dr. Siriporn Jungsuttiwong, presented on “From Molecular Mechanisms to Device Performance: Experimental–DFT Insights for Sustainable Battery Innovation.”
2. Associate Professor Dr. Unchalee Sampao presented on “Electrochemical Paper-Based Analytical Devices for the Determination of Nitrite, Nitrate, and Nitrosamine.”
3. Associate Professor Dr. Sayan Saengsuwan presented on “Rapid UV-Photopolymerized Starch-Based Superabsorbent: One-Pot Synthesis Toward Efficient and Cost-Effective Dye Removal.”
In addition, UBU researchers showcased their innovative work through poster presentations, including:
1. Associate Professor Dr. Saksri Supasorn: “Development of Smartphone-Assisted Colorimetric Determination of Ascorbic Acid in Fortified Drinks for High School Chemistry.”
2. Associate Professor Dr. Maliwan Amatatongchai: “Enhancing Cancer Biomarker Detection with Core–Shell Molecularly Imprinted Polymers for Selective and Reliable Point-of-Care Cancer Testing.”
3. Associate Professor Dr. Pornpan Puengpo: “Discovery of New and Potent InhA Inhibitors as Antituberculosis Agents: Structure-Based Virtual Screening Validated by Biological Assays and X-Ray Crystallography.”
4. Assistant Professor Dr. Nuchanaporn Pijarn: “Synthesis of TiO₂–SiO₂ Polymer Films for Photocatalytic Degradation Under UV Irradiation.”
5. Assistant Professor Dr. Ketsarin Sriboonrueng: “Instant Detection of Formalin in Food Using a Paper-Based Vapor-Sensing Platform.”
This participation marks another milestone of pride for Ubon Ratchathani University, reaffirming its commitment to advancing international research collaboration between Thailand and Taiwan and contributing to the global scientific community. Through active engagement in chemistry and innovation, UBU continues to foster sustainable development and promote excellence in science and technology.
