On July 19, 2025, the Office of International Relations and Education at Ubon Ratchathani University organized the UBU Cultural Learning Walk – Exploring Ubon through the SDGs in the historic old town area. The event brought together over 30 participants, including Thai and exchange students from China, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
The primary objective of the activity was to promote cultural understanding and introduce students to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through experiential learning and local engagement. The key locations visited during the walk included:
1. Wat Supattanaram Worawihan – Students explored the site’s unique European-influenced architecture and engaged in cultural and environmental conservation activities, such as releasing fish into the Mun River to promote biodiversity.
2. Fresh Market – Participants gained insights into the local economy and sustainable consumption practices by visiting vendors and sampling traditional foods.
3. Street Art and Phuttha Kong Shrine – The group learned about the influence of Chinese culture in Ubon Ratchathani through public art and local heritage.
4. Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) – Students learned about the Sikh community and its contributions to Thai society.
The activity facilitated meaningful cultural exchange and mutual learning among participants. Notably, UBU students had the opportunity to enhance their English communication skills through interaction with international peers in a culturally rich and engaging context.
