From March 3–8, 2025, Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), led by Associate Professor Dr. Weerawate Utto, head of the research project “Expanding Collaboration between Ubon Ratchathani University and the National University of Battambang to Drive Food Technology Transfer in the Processed Food Industry in the Kingdom of Cambodia”, conducted a series of strategic engagements in Cambodia. Accompanied by a research team from UBU, Dr. Utto met with H.E. Mr. Tull Traisorat, Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia, and the Minister Counsellor (Commercial) in Phnom Penh to present the research framework and gain insights into the overall business and processed food industry landscape in Cambodia.
Additionally, the research team held discussions and conducted interviews with key stakeholders in the Cambodian food processing sector, including business owners, trade representatives, and industry leaders, to support their study. The engagements included:
1. H.E. Sok Khorn, Rector of the National University of Battambang (NUBB), along with university executives, faculty members, and alumni from the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Processing, NUBB.
2. H.E. Soktry Meav, President of the Cambodia Food Manufacturer Association (CFMA), along with representatives from key Cambodian food processing industry partners, such as Khmer Enterprises, UNIDO, the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), and the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) at the Business Development Center.
3. Mr. Sousachak Sim, Trade and Export Promotion Coordinator, Cambodia-Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), a private-sector initiative promoting high-value processed food products and technology transfer.
4. Mr. Wittaya Kriangkraiwit, Managing Director of C.P. Cambodia Co., Ltd., and his executive team.
5. Ms. Seng Samnang, MLH Co. Ltd.'s owner, specializes in functional processed food products.
6. Mr. Nob Non, Director of Tasey Samaki Cooperative, a cooperative focused on vegetable and agricultural production.
7. Mr. Sivnhem Sang, Owner of Siem Reap Farmer Market, is part of a network of business owners in the grain beverage, frozen food, and sesame oil industries.
This initiative served as an exploratory study and market assessment of the processed food sector in Cambodia, supported by funding from the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness Enhancement (PMU-C), Thailand.
UBU’s engagement in this project underscores its commitment to fostering regional collaboration, enhancing food technology innovation, and contributing to the sustainable development of the food processing industry in Cambodia.
