From February 7-11, 2025, representatives from Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) and its affiliated networks participated as Thailand’s delegates in the BIMSTEC Youth Summit held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. The delegation included Mr. Rittidet Kapueg, General Administration Officer from the Faculty of Political Science; Ms. Wanicha Saentaweesuk, General Administration Officer from the India Studies Center at UBU; Ms. Sirianong Saengkrajang, International Relations Officer from the Office of International Relations; and Mr. Siwawut Wongwai, Vice Chairman of the Young Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce (YEC), Ubon Ratchathani Chamber of Commerce.
The summit was organized under the theme "Youth: Bridging BIMSTEC Cooperation," aimed to empower young leaders, enhance regional economic and social engagement, and foster strategic exchanges to address contemporary challenges within the BIMSTEC community. Notable dignitaries attending the event included Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports; Mr. Bhupendrabhai Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat; Ms. Raksha Khadse, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports; and Mr. Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, India.
This summit provided a dynamic platform for 70 youth leaders from BIMSTEC member countries; Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand to engage in in-depth discussions on regional challenges and opportunities. Key topics included entrepreneurship, technology, digital connectivity, cybersecurity, and sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on cross-border collaboration.
The BIMSTEC Youth Summit is part of India's broader initiative to strengthen regional cooperation, aligning with its "Neighborhood First" and "Act East" policies, as well as the "Security & Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)" vision. The event also brought together entrepreneurs, technology innovators, cultural experts, social media influencers, and civil society leaders, further enriching the discourse on regional development.
This summit catalyzes youth-led initiatives and leadership-driven progress, reinforcing a strong network of regional cooperation for the future of BIMSTEC. UBU’s participation in this esteemed gathering underscores its commitment to international collaboration and its role in fostering education, research, and community development on a global scale.
