Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Conferred Diplomas in 2023 UBU Graduates

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 9.30 a.m., His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn, King Rama X, assigned Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to confer diplomas to graduates of Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) for the academic year 2023 (the 33rd assemblage) at the 7th Cycle of the King’s Birthday Convention Hall, UBU, Ubon Ratchathani.

On this occasion, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn conferred honorary doctorates and awards on distinguished individuals across various fields. Notable recipients included 1) honorary doctorate degree in Social Science and Developmentto Somdet Phra Maha Thirachan (Pasarit Khemangaro, Sutthiphan), 2) honorary doctorate degree in Pharmacy to Pharmacist Pramote Chonlayut, 3) honorary doctorate degree in Civil Engineering to General Chuchai Sinchai, and a Ratthanobon Award 2024 to Associate Professor Utith Himakul. This year’sdiploma recipients included 2,348 bachelor’s, 58 master’s, and 20 doctoral graduates, totaling 2,426 graduates.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn subsequently spoke the following to the graduates:

"In the present era, often described as one driven by technology, events and developments are evolving rapidly. To navigate life and pursue a career successfully in such dynamic circumstances, individuals must learn to adapt, beginning with cultivating the correctness of their thoughts and perspectives. Regardless of changes, uncertainties, or challenges, one should perceive these as opportunities to learn and continually advance oneself.

If individuals have confidence in their potential and believe that intelligence and abilities in various areas can be developed through persistent and determined effort using appropriate and correct methods, they will gain physical, mental, and intellectual strength. This fortified strength will enable them to identify ways to conduct themselves and perform their duties with resilience, ultimately achieving success and progress without fear or discouragement. 

Graduates are thus encouraged to reflect on and apply this guidance in their lives and endeavors to attain happiness and success in the future."

After the diploma conferral, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn participated in a photo session with UBU executive boards, academia, and staff. Subsequently, she visited the exhibition to view the display titled “Natural Science and the Conservation of Local Resources.” Following this, Her Royal Highness observed a performance of Thai traditional music featuring the song “Princess, Beloved of the People of Ubon.” Later, she met with the ten grantees of the Royal Scholarships bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn

This year, several distinguished items were presented to Her Royal Highness:

1. Pha Kru Kosol Sikkhakit, Abbot of Wat Prai Pattana, presented a bronze statue of Luang Pu Suang and silk.

2. Associate Professor Dr. Chutinun Prasitpuriprecha, President of Ubon Ratchathani University, presented silk called “Kab Bua Jok Dao” in the Sirivachiraporn pattern.

3. Assistant Professor Dr. Piyanat Soikham, Assistant to the President for Organizational Communication and Social Engagement, presented the book named “From the Bay of Bengal to BIMSTEC: A Comprehensive Review of BIMSTEC Through Member States”.

4. Associate Professor Dr. Sitthichai Samanchart, Faculty of Applied Arts and Architecture, presented the books named “Shamu-Sarasa and Shamuro-Zome: Asian Textile Heritage of India, Thailand, and Japan”.

5. Mrs. Mayuree Som-In, pensioner and disciple of Wat Prai Pattana, presented silk called “Laberk” pattern.

6. Mr. Nakhonthada Champarueng, a student from the Faculty of Liberal Arts, presented a betel box made from Yo Pa (Morinda coreia Ham).

7. Mr. Arunsak Kamjorn, a graduate of the Faculty of Law, presented a bracelet made from ivory and enamel silver ring.

8. Mr. Natthakit Rojanaphokindechakul, a student from the Faculty of Business School, presented an indigo-dyed Khid pillow with a natural dye pattern of Phraya Song Chang.

9. Miss Patcharaporn Chanthai, a representative graduate, presented a souvenir program and commemorative glass. 

Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) has been a university for the past 33 years. There are 82 programs, with 17,546 students. UBU has a mission to 1) produce highly skilled graduates in each profession to meet industry needs including entrepreneurial skills, 2) create knowledge and innovation which can be applied to improve the quality of life in society at both the local and national levels, 3) transfer knowledge and technology through academic services to meet the needs of recipients, society, and industry, 4) promote the culture and wisdom of southern Isan innovatively to drive the economy.

This mission aimsto focuses on improving the quality of life for society and leading university with the UBU vision, “A Leading University in ASEAN Enhancing the Quality of Life for Society”.
