Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) congratulates Associate Professor Dr. Purim Jarujamrus, a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, for being awarded the prestigious Mid-Career Researcher Development Grant from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) for the fiscal year 2025. His groundbreaking research project, titled "Novel Luminescent Sensors for Simultaneous Detection of Cancer Biomarkers Utilizing Layered Double Oxide Nanocomposites and Aptamer-Enhanced Sensitivity on Superhydrophobic Paper-Based Devices," was selected as one of only 60 projects recognized nationwide.
Dr. Purim's research focuses on developing innovative sensors for simultaneously detecting cancer biomarkers, specifically Carbohydrate Antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) and Carbohydrate Antigen 125 (CA 125), in human serum samples using paper-based detection devices. These sensors are designed to provide accurate and precise assessments of pancreatic cancer. The user-friendly sensors deliver rapid results, making them ideal for medical technicians and clinical laboratory staff. Upon completion, the research is expected to yield a laboratory prototype with potential for commercialization. Furthermore, the prototype can be adapted to detect other medically significant target analytes.
He is widely recognized for his outstanding contributions to research and education, both nationally and internationally. His numerous accolades include being selected by the Chemical Society of Thailand for the ACES-CST Early Career Award for Contributions to Green Chemistry 2024. He will receive this prestigious award from Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana at the Pure and Applied Chemistry International Conference 2025 (PACCON 2025), which will be held at the Khao Yai Convention Center, Nakhon Ratchasima, from February 13–15, 2025.
Currently, Associate Professor Dr. Purim Jarujamrus serves as the Vice Dean for Research, Innovation, and International Relations at the Faculty of Science, UBU. He is a source of immense pride for the university, embodying its commitment to excellence in research and education. His pioneering work and dedication continue to advance the university’s mission, enhancing its reputation as a leading institution driving progress in education, research, and societal development.
