On November 30, 2024, the Faculty of Agriculture at Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) hosted the annual project named "Mue Riaw Ro Kiew Ruang 2024" ("harvesting rice by hand"). The event was held at the faculty’s agricultural plot and more than 300 students and staff participated in the activity. Dr. Narintorn Boonbrahm, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, presided over the opening ceremony. The harvested rice will be kept for the graduates' homecoming, the graduation ceremony in 2023, and to support various student activities.
This annual activity has been a tradition passed down from generation to generation and is divided into two phases: plot preparation and planning, followed by the rice harvest. It was designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the rice-planting process and foster a deeper connection to agricultural practices. This project embodied UBU's commitment to student development by reflecting the university's core student identity: "Competent and Practical, Creative, United, and Socially Responsible."
In addition, the initiative contributed to several United Nations Sustainable Development (SDGs), including SDG3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, SDG 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, and SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
