Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) proudly congratulates the UBU Green Club on receiving two prestigious awards from the CCE Children & Youth 2024 initiative. Assistant Professor Dr. Preecha Boonchoong, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations, along with Assistant Professor Ratchawut Kotelakum, the club's advisor, and his team, accepted the awards at TK Palace Hotel & Convention on August 28, 2024.

The UBU Green Club has maintained its gold-level status since 2018, marking six consecutive years of excellence. In 2024, the club was honored with two notable prizes for its projects: the "Green Youth Activity 2023" for the "MERN Project" and the "Waste Bank," both recognized under the CCE Children & Youth 2024 network. These projects achieved gold-level evaluations, further solidifying the club's reputation for environmental leadership.

The "MERN Project" focuses on reducing plastic cup usage in beverage shops. To facilitate this, the club developed an app allowing participants to register and receive a QR code, which they present at participating shops to receive discounts for using reusable cups. This initiative attracted 497 participants and eliminated 837 plastic cups, equivalent to 12.55 kilograms of waste. Additionally, the project helped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 12.940 kilograms of carbon dioxide.

The "Waste Bank Project" promotes waste separation in communities near the university, including Mueang Si Kai, That, Kham Kwang, and Pho Yai Subdistricts. The project successfully collected 770.20 kilograms of paper, 192.60 kilograms of plastic, 47.20 kilograms of aluminum, 177.50 kilograms of steel, 681.70 kilograms of clear glass bottles, 1,002.20 kilograms of glass, and 157 kilograms of zinc. In total, 3,082.40 kilograms of recyclable waste were collected, reducing 6,993.14 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.

These awards highlight UBU's unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The university aligns with national plans and policy frameworks by addressing climate change and environmental challenges, reflecting a proactive approach to tackling global environmental issues.
