International Conference on Mekong-Ganga Development at UBU

UBU recently hosted an international conference on Mekong-Ganga Development organized by Ubon Ratchathani University's Mekong Sub-region Social Research Center in collaboration with the India Studies Center, the Faculty of Political Science. The conference was titled "Mekong-Ganga Development in Regional Transition and Uncertainty" and occurred March 1-2, 2024, at the U-Place Hotel, Ubon Ratchathani University.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Assistant Professor Dr. Chutinun Prasitpuriprecha, the President of Ubon Ratchathani University, and attended by Associate Professor Dr. Surasak Khamkhong, the Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts. Dr. M. Sivaguru, Counsellor (Political) & Alternate DPR to UNESCAP from the Embassy of India in Thailand, delivered a speech via an online platform. Other distinguished attendees included Assistant Professor Dr. Siriporn Jantanasakulwong, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science, lecturers, researchers, and over 50 participants actively engaging in the conference.

The conference aimed to create a network of international cooperation to study the development of the Mekong and Ganga subregions. The activities consisted of various presentations, lectures, and discussions. Professor Dr. Surichai Wun'Gaeo from Chulalongkorn University and Associate Professor Dr. Ameeta Mowani from the University of Delhi led sessions on "Poverty in Thailand and International Perspectives." The presentations focused on the Mekong and Ganga rivers, while the discussions emphasized 25 years of Mekong-Ganga cooperation and the establishment of academic cooperation between participating nations.
