On 25 December 2018, International Relations Office (IR) at UBU organized a cultural exchange activity called “Secret Santa and Christmas Party” where Thai students/staff and international students/staff gathered and exchanged their culture with one another. Normally, many Thai people do not celebrate Christmas Day as the majority of Thais are Buddhists. Moreover, most of UBU students do not celebrate the Christmas holiday either. Some may know a little about Christmas while the majority of them know nothing about it.  Therefore, the objectives of this activity wereto provide an opportunity for Thai and international students/staff to meet and make connections, to exchange culture among people from several countries, and to give a chance to Thai students/staff to practice their English with the international students and staff.

Secret Santa and Christmas Party is a part of International Students and Staff Activities Project that aimed to create an international environment on campus, to create deep connections among Thai and international students/staff, to exchange culture and to provide a space for Thai students/staff’s to practice their English skills.

The event was organized for UBU international students and staff for the first time ever and was held at IR Office from 12.00-16.00. There were a total of 32 students and staff who enjoyed having lunch, playing games together and exchanging gifts among each other.  Besides enjoyments from the party, Thai students and staff also learned more about the history of UBU and Christmas by playing a Kahoot trivia quiz game where questions about the university and holiday were asked. Through this, each attendee had the opportunity to leave with some new knowledge by the end of the event.

All in all, the IR Office was very pleased with the enjoyment of our participants and are happy to organize more events. The office hopes to see more Thai and international students/staff at our future events.
