UBU Lecturer Wins Young Leader Award 2019 from the Pacific Forum

UBU is pleased to congratulate Dr. Piyanat Soikham, a lecturer from the Faculty of Political Science at UBU, for being selected to receive the Young Leader Award 2019 from the Pacific Forum. The Young Leaders Program aims to provide young scholars and policy professionals who are interested in policy making and issues in the Asia-Pacific region to enhance their policy analytical skills and to promote cross-cultural interaction and cooperation among young leaders and professionals.

The Pacific Forum is an independent research institute located in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA that focuses on Asia-Pacific issues. The Young Leaders Program is one out of six programs provided by the Pacific Forum. Each year, young leaders and professionals from 56 countries around the world are selected to receive the award. The selected young leaders receive opportunities to attend conferences and events organized by the Pacific Forum. They will also get to further develop their research and publications with peers and seniors experts within their fields and beyond.

So far, Dr. Soikhamis going to attend the India-ASEAN Youth Summitin India from 3 to 7 February 2019. Then, he will attend the US-ASEAN Partnership Forumin Jakarta, Indonesia from 11 to 13 February 2019. This is only the beginning for Dr. Soikham as he will attend even more events organized by the forum in the future.

Dr Piyanat Soikham holds some of the most honorable character traits as his practice represents diligence, high effort, and true self-development. He is an agent of change. He continuously seeks out opportunities that not only benefits himself and his personal knowledge, but he also makes it a goal to benefit the communities around him. Dr. Soikham has worked on projects that has assisted many communities without any financial expectation for profits. He recently ran a project that provided knowledge to many individuals for free. The project was organized at more than 400 schools/institutions in Thailand and there were more than 10,000 participants who attended his project. 

Besides the Young Leaders Award, Dr Soikham also won an award in the Humanities and Social Science category from The Anglo-Thai Society’s Annual Award for Academic Excellence 2017, which was held in London, UK and from Thai Students Academic Conference: TSAC2018 held in Brussels, Belgium.
