On 14 February 2019, the International Relations Office (IR) at UBU organized a Valentines’ Day Event at Bansisakrabue School in Warin Chamrap, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Bansisakrabue School is a small school that is located nearby UBU. It takes 10 minutes by car from UBU to the school. The school serves kindergarten to grade 6 students where there are a total of 5 teachers and 45 students. As a university committed to supporting our local communities, UBU values the importance of child development in various dimensions such as academics and cultural awareness, especially for the children in rural communities. Therefore, the IR Office organized the event to share knowledge about a western holiday and culture through Valentine’s Day. In addition, the students also learned basic English through various games and making a Valentine’s Day card. Majority of the participants from UBU consisted of UBU staff, international students and Thai students. Moreover, there were 6 Nursing students from the University Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesia who joined the event. The students voluntarily taught an Indonesian local dance to the students, too.  The students loved it! At the end of the event, the students were taught how to create their own Valentine’s Day card that they could essentially give to their parents, friends or any other loved ones.

During the event, the students immensely enjoyed the activities, the sweets and ice-cream that were given to them and making new friends. Moreover, all of them received a Valentine gift from IR Office ranging from a decorative pen to a stuffed animal.

Ultimately, UBU will continue to organize more events that promote students’ English and cross-cultural knowledge as we are a university committed to supporting our local communities.
