Mr. Thitikan Boonkang, a researcher at the Faculty of Engineering at UBU was selected to receive an Excellent Paper Award with his research called Development of Domestic Salt Used as Binder in Casting Process of Rice Polishing Cylinder from the International Conference on Science, Engineering & Technology – ICSET 2019 which was held in Rome, Italy from 20 -21 February 2019.

Mr. Thitikan Boonkang revealed that his project will support the Rice Mill industry when its cost is reduced due to the use of domestic salt. Typically, salt is used as a core material in the casting process of rice polishing cylinder. His research demonstrated that salt from the Central and Eastern parts of Thailand can be used in the casting process with imported salt at the ratio of 50:50. The capacity of the rice polishing cylinder with the use of the domestic salt is similar to those with the imported salt. In contrast, its production is 5% higher while its processing time is 20% shorter. Therefore, his research was selected by the International Institute of Engineers and Researchers to win the Excellent Paper Award.

Mr. Thitikan Boonkang thanks all the valuable supporters who were involved in this research such as Dr. Charuayporn Santhaweesuk, Asst. Prof. Nalin Pianthong, Assoc. Prof. Chakkrit Umpuch, Mr. Hattachai Kawkaew, lecturers and staff from the Faculty of Engineering and UBU Industrial Engineering students. He also thanks Chollatheesupanan Rice Mill and their skillful staff to help with the casting process of the rice polishing cylinder. Moreover, his project also formerly received the Excellent Paper Award from International Conference on Science, Technology and Management - ICSTM 2017 that was held in Moscow, Russia in 2017.

UBU is so proud of Mr. Thitikan Boonkang. We believe that he will use his skills and knowledge to produce even more outstanding Engineer graduates at our university and help improve the Thai society as a whole.
