On 20 April 2019, the Faculty of Nursing organized an exhibition under the project of Elderly Happiness School at the National Elderly and Family Day 2019 event which was held at the Sunee Grand Hotel and Convention Center. It was organized by Ubon Ratchathani Province and was officially opened by Mr. Wirut Wichaiboon, Vice-Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province.
At the event, knowledge on elders’ health care and promotion was delivered to audiences through information technology and modern communicative channels. Digital applications through smart phones and tablets were employed in order to strengthen the elders’ brains. Moreover, by the use of technologies, senior citizens would have a chance to explore worldwide information and learn new knowledge through the internet. It is believed that technology could prevent them from having dementia or Alzheimer’s. Ultimately, the use of smart phones and tablets would be able to narrow-down the age gap among family members.
Besides the application of technology, local wisdom preservation was also presented. Handicrafts produced by senior citizens were shown at the exhibition such as papyrus sticky rice boxes, bamboo fans, and handmade dolls from socks. These handmade products can represent the value of senior citizens who are still full of potential to help develop the country.
