On 8 July 2019, Assistant Professor Dr. Chalermchai Wongrak, Assistant to the President for International Relations and International Education, met with three Bhutanese students who are scholarship recipients of UBU. On that day, the International Relations Office arranged a van to pick the students up at Ubon Ratchathani Airport along with their Buddies who are UBU Thai students. The buddies will help serve as the student’s peer and guide while they live and study at UBU.

Last year, H.E. Mr. Tshewang Chophel Dorji, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, led the executive staff from the Royal Bhutanese Embassyin visiting UBU on 26 July 2018. At that time, Associate Professor Dr. Nongnit Teerawatanasuk, former UBU President, and UBU Executive Board Members welcomed them. They consulted on the possibility of building a cooperation between UBU and Bhutan.  In the past, UBU has sent a group of students to complete their internships in Bhutan. The students received generous assistance from the Bhutanese government who helped the students enter Bhutan and the host Bhutanese companies/institutions who helped them gain invaluable knowledge and experiences. Moreover, the students received a very warm welcome and hospitality from the Bhutanese people throughout their time in Bhutan. Therefore, UBU is very pleased to have a cooperation with the Royal Bhutanese Embassy by offering four scholarships to Bhutanese students.

So far, UBU has granted numerous amounts of scholarships (both full and partial) to international students through cooperation on a university and government level. However, UBU has never granted a scholarship to students from Bhutan before.

On 24 November 2018, the UBU Council board meeting approved for four scholarships to be granted to the Royal Bhutanese Embassy.

In the 2019 academic year, three students from Bhutan were awarded the scholarships.

The studentsare as follows:

  1. Ms Tshoden Yeshi Lhagyel                International Business Administration (English Program) Faculty of Management Science
  1. Mr Singye Wangchuk                         International Business Administration (English Program) Faculty of Management Science
  1. Ms. Jamyang Selden                         Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering

The scholarships cover international and domestic airfares, monthly allowances, and educational material fees while the tuition fees are waived.

UBU pleasurably welcomes the above students to UBU, blesses them with a happy and warm stay at UBU and throughout all of Thailand, and hopes that they are exceedingly successful in their studies.
