UBU raises its students’ and staff members’ awareness on motorcycle driving safety by encouraging them to wear a safety helmet. The event was held at Lan Hin See at the His Majesty’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary Commemorating Building, Ubon Ratchathani University on 6 September 2019. On the special event, Assistant Professor Dr. Chutinun Prasitpuriprecha, UBU’s President, presided over the open ceremony. Ms. Charuayporn Santhaweesuk, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations, reported the objectives of the event. The event aimed to provide knowledge about and improve people’s awareness on Thailand’s traffic discipline, to promote road safety, and to develop a campaign on wearing safety helmets for UBU students, staff members, and other community members.

Furthermore, the event was organized to respond to the Royal wish of the King who remarkably cares about and is concerned for the safety of all people. This event was one out of many honorable activities to cerebrate His Majesty the King's 67th birthday. Moreover, the event also served the government’s policy on road accident reduction which was set for the national agenda called the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011–2020. This policy aims to reduce road accidents, drunk driving, and alcohol-related traffic fatalities.

Ms. Charuayporn Santhaweesukstated that this activity received admirable participation and collaboration from various road safety networks which included government sectors, private sectors, neighboring communities, UBU students, and staff members. To promote the safety campaign, representatives from all of these groups drove around UBU’s campus on their motorcycles demonstrating proper driver safety: wearing a safety helmet, driving at a moderate speed, and utilizing their turn signals.

According to the 2018 record, it was found that many UBU students suffered from road accidents. Therefore, by organizing this event, UBU strongly hopes that the campaign will enhance people’s road safety skills and their long-term awareness on traffic discipline to remarkably reduce the amount of road accidents.
