On 4 March 2020, the College of Medicine and Public Health organized a special lecture on the COVID-19 situation in Thailand at the Central Laboratory Building, UBU. Dr. Nirun Phitakwatchara, MD, Dean of College of Medicine and Public Health, honorably welcomed the keynote speaker, Associate Professor(Special) Dr. Tawee Chotpitayasunondh, President of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of Thailand, at the event. The outbreak of the "Corona Virus" or "COVID-19" has caused a lot of worry and concern amongst many people around the world including Thailand. Due to this outbreak, people are solemnly following the news to stay alert on the number of people who have been affected and/or have experienced death. People are also staying up to date with the news in order to identify the best ways on how to protect themselves from the virus. However, some public health experts have noticed that there has been a widespread of incorrect information on the virus shared through various social media channels. This misleading of information has caused intensive anxiety, mass panic of the people and an inaccurate spread of information for prevention measures to take for the virus. In response, the UBU Hospital, the College of Medicine and Public Health wanted to organize this special lecture to help alleviate some of the concerns and provide more accurate information. The lecture provided information to the public on the current situation of COVID-19 in Thailand, the treatments being created and what to do in order to prevent the country from reaching “Stage 3” of the outbreak situation. Stage 3 means that the level of danger from the virus would be officially declared as an "epidemic" with the virus widely spreading across the whole county. UBU hopes that the information provided can help prevent the virus from reaching this serious stage.

All in all, UBU hopes that the special lecture helped relieved some stresses around the topic of COVID-19. UBU also hopes that everyone remains healthy, informed and safe. To gain more information on this topic, it is recommended to find information from official governmental sites.
