Ubon Ratchathani University Science Park organized a Meat Processing Event (Steak Talk#1)

On 14 February 2020, UBU Science Park organized an academic event on meatprocessing (Steak Talk#1) at the Pilot Plant Building, UBU. The workshop was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Chawalit Thinvongpituk, Vice President for Research, Innovations, and Academic Services. Afterward, Dr. Pracha Khamphakdi, Assistant Director of UBU Science Park, gave a report.Activities included a seminar that provided guidelines for food processing plant management, an exhibition, a food processing contest,a competition on industrial machinery applications, a study visit at a food processing plant and a discussion on work experience led by successful entrepreneurs (Entrepreneur Success Story).

Associate Professor Dr. Chawalit Thinvongpituk reported that it was the first time the Pilot Plant Building was used to host an event. The Pilot Plant itself is a prototype plant that is used for meat production and is operated under the supervision of UBU Science Park.The prototype was created to helpimprove meat production and processing for Northeastern entrepreneurs as well as farmers, SMEs and Start Ups. The purpose of the event was to promote research and innovation for meat processing, to internationalize meat quality standards and to provide an opportunity for staff members of the Pilot Plant, researchers and the general public to meet and exchange knowledge.  Additionally, the event created a space for public and private sectors to meet and network. With this network space, UBU Science Park can serve as one of the central hubs for individuals to connect and collaborate on their various works related to meat production technology.  

The seminar on Food Pilot Plant Management was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Anadee Nitithamyong, Chair of Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand, Dr. Ek-anong Jangbua, Deputy Director for Plan and Strategy, the Food Innopolis (FI), National Science and Technology Development Agency, Associate Professor Dr. Sombat Chinnawong, Director of Institute of Food Research and Product Development, Kasetsart University.

Furthermore, six teams participated in the food processing contest. The first place winner was the Sai Ua Mon Team from the Faculty of Agriculture. The first runner-up was the HTM1 Team from the Business School and the 2nd runner-up was the 3FT Team from the Faculty of Agriculture.

UBU sincerely thanks all participants for their participation and congratulates all contestants in the competition!
