The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ubon Ratchathani University, was established in 1994 in Ubon Ratchathani Province as the eighth national public pharmacy school in response to an increased demand for pharmacists in Thailand, especially in the North-East region of Thailand. In addition, the Faculty aims to produce research which enhances the potential and strength of the community and the country, and also fosters the education and utilization of folk wisdom in herbs and pharmacy. Currently, there are 14 public and 5 private (total 19) pharmacy schools in Thailand and the Faculty is one of three pharmacy schools located in the North-East region.
At present the Faculty offers a 6-year professional curriculum (Doctor of Pharmacy, Pharm D) program (started in 2008). In terms of graduate studies, there are 3 programs: 1) Master of Science program in Health Service Management; 2) Master of Science program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Natural Products; 3) Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences. More than 1,000 students have graduated and 500 research articles have been published in national and international journals. In the near future, the Pharmaceutical Sciences program (six-year curriculum) providing graduates for the pharmaceutical industry and research areas and international graduate programs will be offered.
